The specific mix matters more than the category name: mineral water is not a standardized flavor or a universal health claim.

Enthusiasts often enjoy mineral water because the source has a recognizable signature. A higher TDS reading can reflect that mineral content, but it does not tell you which minerals are present or whether you will like the result. An actual analysis is more informative than an ‘ideal TDS’ graphic.

If you use mineral water as a daily refill, pay attention to source information and taste. People with individual dietary guidance about sodium or mineral intake should follow that guidance rather than a general enthusiast preference. For everyone else, mineral water can simply be a distinct, enjoyable option when the source is clear and well managed.

Treat a source’s mineral profile as something to learn about, not something to exaggerate. Ask whether a current analysis is available, notice whether the water’s taste changes, and remember that a source can be interesting without fitting every routine. Mineral water can complement a household’s options; it does not need to defeat filtered water in a universal contest.

When might another water type make more sense?

If you value source character, spring water might be the more useful category to explore—though spring water is not necessarily mineral-forward. If your goal is an appliance manual’s low-residue requirement, distilled or DI water may be relevant only if the manual says so.

Individual dietary guidance can matter too. Someone who has been advised to watch sodium or mineral intake should follow that individualized advice rather than a broad claim about mineral water. For everyone else, the ordinary criteria still work: clear source information, good station care, a taste you enjoy, and a cost you are comfortable repeating week after week. There is no prize for choosing the strongest-tasting option if it does not suit your routine.
