Privacy Policy
Last updated:
PureWaterFinder ("PureWaterFinder," "we," "us," or "our") operates purewaterfinder.com, a directory of water refill stations across the United States. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
What we collect
Information you provide
- Account information when you sign up: email address, display name, and, if you sign in with Google, the basic profile information Google returns.
- User-generated content you post: reviews, refill confirmations, photos, suggested edits, and closed-station reports.
- Claim and business-owner submissions if you claim a listing you own or apply to advertise: business name, role, and any verification information you send.
- Messages you send us via the contact form or email.
Information we collect automatically
- Usage data such as pages viewed, referring URL, approximate location derived from IP address, device type, and browser information.
- Cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences (like light or dark theme), and measure traffic. See Cookies and analytics below.
- Precise location only if you grant browser permission to use it for "stations near me" searches. We do not store your precise location on our servers; it stays in your browser.
Information from third parties
- Authentication providers (Google) return the profile information you authorize when you sign in.
- Analytics providers return aggregated traffic and engagement data described below.
How we use information
- Operate the directory and your account.
- Publish reviews, refill confirmations, photos, and edits you submit.
- Review claim requests, moderate content, and prevent abuse.
- Send transactional email (sign-in codes, claim status, safety notices).
- Measure traffic and improve the product.
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of first-party cookies for authentication and preferences, and third-party analytics to understand aggregate usage. Current analytics providers include Google Analytics 4 (via Google Tag Manager) and Sentry for error monitoring. These services may set their own cookies and collect information as described in their own policies:
You can control cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
You can also revisit your on-site cookie choice at any time:
Affiliate links and advertising
PureWaterFinder is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We may also participate in other affiliate programs and may earn a commission when you click a product link and make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.
Sponsored placements on the site are labeled "Sponsored" and reflect a paid relationship with the featured business or advertiser. We do not apply the "Sponsored" label to any listing that is not part of a paid arrangement.
User-generated content
Reviews, refill confirmations, photos, and edits you submit are, by design, public. Do not include information in a public post that you would not want to be public. You can remove your own content from your account, or contact us to request removal.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
- With service providers that host, secure, or operate the site under contract: Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database and authentication), Cloudflare (DNS, CDN, and R2 object storage for photos), Resend (transactional email), Google (analytics and authentication), and Sentry (error monitoring).
- To comply with law or a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of PureWaterFinder, our users, or the public.
- In a business transfer if PureWaterFinder is acquired or reorganized, subject to standard confidentiality protections.
Data retention
We keep account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile information and dissociate your reviews and refill confirmations from your identity within 30 days. We may retain minimal information as needed to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our Terms.
Your choices and rights
- Access, correct, or delete your account information at any time from your account settings, or by emailing privacy@purewaterfinder.com.
- California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
- EU/EEA and UK residents have rights under the GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Our legal bases are consent, contract, and legitimate interests in operating the directory.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@purewaterfinder.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
Children
PureWaterFinder is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard controls to protect information in transit and at rest. No online service can guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach that affects you, we will notify you as required by law.
International users
PureWaterFinder is operated from the United States. If you use the site from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
