What is high-pH water?
High-pH water is an alkaline-water category at the upper end of the pH scale, often produced by ionization or mineral addition after filtration. Some refill stations make it a separate selection because it has a different taste or because customers specifically request it. The category is about chemistry, not a broad medical promise.
It is easy to overread a pH display. pH measures acidity or alkalinity; it does not list contaminants, prove a water source, or establish a detox or performance benefit. TDS is also a separate measurement. A high TDS reading does not validate a high-pH claim, and a high pH alone does not validate treatment quality.
If you are curious, the sensible approach is modest: ask how the station produces the water, sample the taste, and compare the cost with ordinary RO or mineralized water. Do not treat high pH as a reason to skip source transparency, maintenance information, or a clean refill container.
Be especially cautious when high-pH water is described as a solution for a medical condition or a replacement for ordinary hydration. Those claims go well beyond what a category label and a pH reading can support. A water-refill directory can help you find options and understand their labels; it should not turn a niche preference into health advice.

Only if the ordinary reasons work for you. You may prefer its taste, appreciate a station that clearly explains its process, or decide the price difference is small enough for a personal preference. Those are legitimate consumer choices. The stronger claims often attached to high-pH water are not a reason to treat a markup as medically necessary.
A useful comparison is simple: taste a small amount, ask how it is made, look at the cost per refill, and compare it with standard RO. If you cannot tell a meaningful difference or the added cost annoys you, you probably do not need the upgrade. A consistent refill habit with a transparent, well-kept station matters more than chasing the highest number on a screen. If another option is easier to find and you like it just as well, that is a good reason to keep the decision simple.
