Filtration process

FreshPure publishes these filtration stages for its refill water.

1. Sediment pre-filter. Municipal water passes through a sediment pre-filter.
2. Blended activated coconut carbon. FreshPure states this stage removes volatile organic compounds, including chlorine, chloramines, pesticides, herbicides, and solvents. The operator also states the system holds 10 times the carbon of a typical filtration unit.
3. Reverse osmosis. Water is forced at high pressure through a membrane. FreshPure states the membrane filters down to 1/10,000th of a micron.
4. Carbon post filtration. FreshPure states this stage further enhances taste.
5. Ultraviolet light sterilization. FreshPure describes ultraviolet light as the final sterilization step.

On the same page, FreshPure describes an alkaline path. After reverse osmosis, that path adds an alkaline mineralization step, which the operator calls a permanent 9+ alkalization with added minerals, before carbon post filtration and ultraviolet light.
